Current sensors are high precision coreless sensors for industrial applications - based on Hall technology
The coreless concept allows significant miniaturization compared to existing products. It is a fully digital solution, easy to use, no need for external calibration. Additionally a separate interface pin (OCD) provides a fast output signal in case the current measured by the sensor exceeds a pre-defined threshold. The small QFN-like package allows standard SMD assembly. The TLI4970 provides superior accuracy compared to existing open or closed loop systems with magnetic cores. It has additional functionality such as over current detection, zero crossing detection and programmable filters, but offers a significantly smaller footprint and power consumption. Infineon Technologies AG will launch a new family of current sensors and presented its first member at this year’s PCIM trade fair. The family will consist of precise and stable coreless Hall sensors. They offer a high level of flexibility as customers can individually program product parameters such as the current range, the overcurrent threshold and the output mode. This new sensor will be coming soon.

Precision Current Measurement with TLI4970 Miniature Sensor from Infineon
The differential measurement principle integrated in the TLI4970 sensor suppresses interference caused by external magnetic fields. Accordingly, the sensor achieves an ex-tremely low offset of just 25 mA.With conventional current measurement principles, the measuring accuracy is always governed by the ambient conditions (e.g. the temperature). Furthermore Infineon′s current sensor is more accurate than existing open-loop and com-parable to closed-loop systems. It also provides additional functions such as fast overcurrent detection and program-mable filters yet has a significantly smaller footprint and lower power consumption. The sensor is extremely robust against external magnetic fields thanks to implemented stray field suppression and is also suitable for fast overcurrent detection at a pre-con-figurable level. This allows the control unit to switch off independently of the main measurement path and protect power consumers from damage.
